The Aga Khan Foundation offers international scholarships for outstanding students from select developing countries, enabling them to pursue postgraduate studies in highly reputable universities worldwide, excluding those in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Italy, Norway, and Ireland. The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, providing a 50% grant and a 50% loan.

Scholarship Coverage:

The scholarship covers tuition fees and living expenses. For PhD programs, funding is provided for the first two years, and students are expected to secure alternative sources thereafter.

Loan Conditions:

  • 50% of the scholarship amount is a loan, repayable with a 5% annual service charge.
  • A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement.
  • The repayment period is five years, starting six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

  • Nationals of select developing countries, with a focus on development-related studies.
  • Consistently excellent academic records.
  • Genuine financial need.
  • Admission to a highly reputable university or program.

  • Demonstrated thoughtful educational and career plans.
  • Extra-curricular interests and achievements.
  • Some years of work experience in the field of interest.
  • Preference given to applicants under 30 years of age.

How to Apply:

  1. Obtain an offer to study at the chosen university.
  2. Obtain the application form from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services/Boards in your current residence country.
  3. Submit the completed application to the agency from which it was obtained (do not send it to Geneva).
